#6 ‘Clad’s Disher’ Ice Cream Scoop

Patented in 1876, the ‘Clad’s Disher’ was the worlds first mechanical ice cream scoop. Designed to help soda shop operators measure out portions of ice cream that were both consistent in size, as well as appealing to look at (a nice cone shape) when dispensed onto a dish. Though slightly awkward to use by today’s standards as it requires two hands to operate, it’s a beautiful example of early Americana kitchenware. Also a great reminder of the early development of the ice cream industry.
