ca. 1850's-60's Ambrotype of Unknown Gentleman
$59.00 CAD
The Ambrotype is one of the earliest photographs available to the general public. Preceded only by the Daguerreotype - which was introduced in 1839.
The Ambrotype was created using glass as its medium (as opposed to paper images we see today) making them very fragile. They needed to be housed in cases like this one, with embossed velvet interior cover, and ornate metal frame to keep them safe. You will notice it has been hand tinted as well (see cheeks)
Item is in AS FOUND condition. Binding has separated. Latch still intact.
